A group of St Edmund’s College pupils demonstrated their debating and diplomatic skills at a recent Model United Nations (MUN) conference. They took on the roles of UN delegates, researching, lobbying, and debating to address global issues. Their efforts resulted in several impressive awards.
Zavier S won the prestigious ‘Distinguished Delegate’ award, given to only three delegates per committee. Thomas B received a ‘Highly Commended Delegate’ award for his outstanding contributions, another honour reserved for three individuals per committee.
Mia S earned the ‘Richard Haslam Memorial Resolution Prize,’ awarded to only three resolutions across the entire weekend. Her resolution stood out for its strength and impact.
Beyond these individual successes, St Edmund’s pupils actively participated throughout the event, achieving:
- 11 resolutions approved
- 21 speeches delivered
- 37 points of information raised
- 37 amendments proposed
Casper D also received the informal ‘People’s Choice Award’ for best speaker, an honour voted on by his fellow committee members.
This experience allowed pupils to strengthen their public speaking, negotiation, and critical thinking skills. Their achievements reflect St Edmund’s College’s commitment to academic excellence and leadership development.
